Good stuff.I'd just add that SQL queries won't handle formatted/smart quotes. If somone copies and pastes the queries here, puts in their own domain info, and pastes that into the query window, they have to be sure that the single quotes are straight quotes or else the query won't succeed. Also newbies need to knao that to enter a SQL query, select the database and click SQL in the PHPAdmin menu.

We recently released a new plugin which simplifies the domain change process. This plugin updates all permalinks (useful if you have images), as well as deep links within post or page content.

Check it out at: http://www.velvetblues.com/web-development-blog/wordpress-plugin-update-urls/

Please, do not recommend 1and1 for a registrar. If you or others are into making DNS changes, they are a nightmare.

Setting up the IP address and DNS requires creating sub-domains... if you can believe that... ludicrous.

Additionally, trying to cancel an account was so horrendous that I just closed by accounts and gave up my domains that I registered with them. I could no longer stand the stress of dealing with them.

Godaddy.com may be wordy and sales oriented, however for Domain management, you can't beat them. No disorganization and when you have DNS or other modifications, the job can be achieved with exact and easy steps.

No so with the run-around at 1and1.

Please don't recommend them for the sake of a couple of dollars. You get what you pay for with them..

Thanks for any consideration to my suggestion. B. Robert.

Hi,

I've recently moved domains so using up my two domain quota. I now want to setup a new blog but would prefer to not have to upgrade my entire package to get additional databases. Is there any chance you could provide me with some info on how you split your database between different blogs with different table prefixes for identification? I couldn't find any answers on the 1&1 site for obvious reasons.

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

You don't need a special utility like BigDump to import a large file into MySql. You can simply use the SOURCE MySQL command, as I outline in my post on "importing large files into MySQL when phpMyAdmin fails"
